Inventory

Inventory is what you keep to sell. This page holds your product list, counts what you have, and shows what it is worth. Stock moves by itself when you receive goods and when you sell them.

Add your products

  1. Open Inventory, tab Products.
  2. Download the Excel template (English or Arabic).
  3. Fill in one row per product: code, name, goods or service, sale price and cost. For new goods you can also give an opening quantity. Category, tracking and the customs tariff code (HS) are optional.
  4. Click Upload and choose the file.

An opening quantity is valued at the cost you entered. A service never has stock. Goods that use lots or expiry cannot have an opening quantity in the upload. They are received through a purchase order instead.

In the table you can change a product's code, name, sale price and category. A new category is created when you choose New category. The Type dropdown (Goods, Lots, Lots + expiry, Serial) can be changed only while no stock is on hand.

Count your stock

Type the quantity you counted next to the product and save. The difference is booked as a stock adjustment, with your name on it. Goods tracked by lot or serial number cannot be counted this way. Use scrap or receive them.

Scrap goods

On Stock movements and scrap choose the product, the quantity and the reason. The reason is required. You cannot scrap more than you have. Confirm the prompt. For goods with expiry, the lots that expire first are scrapped first.

Lots, serial numbers and expiry

Use these for food, medicine and other goods that must be traced. Enter the lot number and expiry date when you receive the goods. The Lots and expiry tab shows days left: orange within 30 days, red when expired. A sale takes the lot or serial automatically, earliest expiry first.

Reorder

For each product, set Reorder at (the level that triggers a purchase) and Order up to (how much stock you want). Products at or below the level appear under To buy with the supplier and the quantity. One button creates a draft purchase order per supplier. Products without a supplier are listed, not ordered.

Valuation and the books

The Stock valuation tab shows quantity, unit cost and value per product for a date you choose, and compares the total with the stock account in the books. The difference should be 0.000. Download it as PDF, Excel or CSV, in English or Arabic, for your auditor.

A sale never takes stock below zero. If you sell more than you have, the invoice stays a draft until the stock is filled.

For accountants

  • Valuation is automatic (perpetual) FIFO on the Goods category, with anglo-saxon accounting. Accounts: inventory valuation 100502, stock incoming 100503, stock outgoing 100504, cost of goods sold 500101, inventory adjustment 500905.
  • New categories are created under All / Goods with the same valuation settings and accounts. Excise goods go in the categories named Excise - Tobacco, Pork products, Alcohol, Energy drinks, Soft and sweetened drinks.
  • The valuation report is built from valuation layers up to the end of the chosen day (Muscat time). PDF and Excel carry the FiscFort footer. The Arabic PDF is available.
  • Opening stock is booked from an Opening stock location at cost.
  • Each product has a Customs tariff code (HS) field. From 1 October 2026 a product whose code is on the zero-rated list (Decisions 223, 224, 225 of 2026) gets 0% VAT on customer invoices created in Odoo as drafts. The accountant keeps the list. See VAT in Odoo.
  • There is one warehouse (WH) with one-step receipts. The Storage Locations setting is off. Unit of Measure precision is 2 decimals; prices and costs have 3.
